| The Life of a Juggler Every one in Pakistan knows the juggler. He travels out from village to village, generally with a boy to carry things and help him with his tricks. He is always welcome for he amuses the people with his tricks. Some of these jugglers are quite clever, and, although we know that the wonderful things they do are only tricks, we are puzzled to know how they do them. However closely we watch we cannot see the juggler remove the little ball which we saw him put under the cup; and yet when he lifts the cup again, the ball has gone. Such tricks are done by quickness of hand for the juggler by long practice has learnt to move his hands quicker than the eye can follow them. The juggler wears a long and loose garment with wide sleeves. He conceals many things in hi sleeves. His turban is large, and serves as a good purpose. He keeps many things there. The juggler knows many tricks which puzzle the poeple. He takes two iron balls in his hand, as he throws them up, they become four. He can catch them and throw up six balls at a time. He swallows a burning piece of coal and produces fire from his mouth. He walks on a rope drawn out on poles carrying a long pole in his hand. He shows a fine power of balancing. Then, there is the famous mango-trick. A stone of the fruit is buried in the earth, and the place is watered. Then it is covered. When the cover is taken off, we see a small plant. The plant is covered. When the cover is finally taken off, we see two mangoes hanging from the plant. The juggler is quite an expert at his trade. It is difficult to catch him pulling off his tricks. Since he provides fun and pleasure to the people, he is a popular figure. | |
